Gastronomy

The gastronomy of the Páez reflects their agricultural life and their close connection with the land. Their diet is based on crops such as corn, potatoes, beans, cassava, arracacha, and plantain. They prepare traditional drinks such as corn chicha and guarapo, and soups like mute.
Corn is the most important food, considered a symbol of life. It is used to prepare arepas, mazamorra, tamales, and wrapped cakes, which are often shared during mingas, or community gatherings.
